Interestingly, archaeologists recently discovered a building complex near the ancient city of Ur in southern Iraq, which is home of the Prophet Abraham.
The structure is believed to be the administrative center of Ur about 4,000 years ago. According to the Bible, Abraham lived in those days there before leaving for Canaan.
The complex is close to the location that is being reconstructed ziggurat, or temple of the Sumerian, said Stuart Campbell of the Department of Archaeology University of Manchester, who led the excavation.
"This is an amazing discovery," said Campbell, Thursday, April 4, 2012. The complex was so wide, about the size of a football field, or about 80 feet on each side. The archaeologists said the complex size and age it is a rare thing.
"Apparently it was some sort of a public building.'s Probably an administrative building, may have religious ties or control of goods to the city of Ur," he told The Associated Press.
Complex room around a large courtyard was found 20 miles from Ur, last capital of the Sumerian dynasty evolved civilization 5,000 years ago.
Artifacts found at archaeological sites near the Prophet's house Ibrahim.Campbell said one of the artifacts they found was a 9 centimeter-sized clay plaque showing a person dressed in long robes approached the shrine.
"In addition to artifacts, the site can reveal the condition of the environment and the local economy through the analysis of the remains of plants and animals," said the archaeological team.
Excavation began last month when a six-man British team worked with four Iraqi archaeologists digging at Tell Khaiber memelakukan, Thi Qar province, about 320 kilometers south of Baghdad.
Tim Campbell is the first British team of archaeological excavations in southern Iraq since the 80s. Excavation was also directed by Dr. Jane Moon from Manchester University and independent archaeologist Robert Killick.
Decades of war and violence has made international archaeologists away from Iraq, which became the location of many archaeological sites that have not been explored. However, extracting it shows that the collaborative mission still possible in some parts of Iraq that are relatively stable, such as in the Shiite-dominated south.
The findings further reveal human history centuries ago, when paganism was embraced so many people, when the scriptures yet born on earth.
